MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL
The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson on Tuesday, Councillor H. 11. Hunt presiding. There were also present Crs McKelvie, Reid, Boyle, Barber, Pearce and Fagan. CORRESPONDENCE.
From A. Thompson, Himatangi pointing out that the culverts under the tram line were not large enough to cope with flood waters, and should be enlarged. Cr. Barber considered that this complaint was due to the recent phenomenal rain fall. No bridges or culverts in the County had been capable of dealing with’the flood waters. It was exceptional. The tram line embankment- had held the water up. —No action was taken. From the Foxton Borough Council asking that the County take over the control of the Boundary road, the ratio of contribution as to maintenance to remain the same —- The Council agreed to take over the road.
From same agreeing to purchase the County’s horse grader for the sum of £2o.—Left to the engineer to finalise.
ALTERATIONS TO RATE.ROLL.

Gould, Sec. 23 Tangimoana. TRAMWAY MANAGER’S REPORT.
The (Tramway manager reported as follows: —The chief items of traffic for the month were:—minerals and manure 116| tons, merchandise 56:1 tons, grain 17:1 tons, stock 4 tracks, metal 65 tracks, eggs 43 crates, timber 12,000 sup. feet; fares amounted to £ll3s lid. The accounts show a debit of £155 5s 9d for the month’s working. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT.
The Traffic Inspector reported as follows: —Owing to the heavy floods during the month a number of stock had to be put on the roads for safety from water, but as soon as the flood receded they were taken in again. Since last Council day six offenders for allowing stock to wander, have been before the Court, and fines ranging from 10s to 30s were inflicted. Good progress was being made with the cutting of the lupins growing on the road sides. One person refuses to cut his so an information will be laid against him for hearing next Court day at Foxton. Fines totalling £4 5s have been inflicted for breaches of bylaws since last Council day. — Received. GENERAL. It was decided to charge a rent of 50/- for all kerbside pumps erected in the County. The revenue is to be used to maintain footpaths. Debentures and Interest Coupons issued for the first £15,000 of the Main Highways Loan of 1926 of £66,000 are to be payable at Bulls, Wanganui, Palmerston North, and Wellington, free of exchange. The Council resolved to allow a rebate of 3J per cent, on all general rates for the year ending March 31, 1927, if paid before the expiration of 30 days of due date.
