THE AERIAL SURVEY.

WEATHER CONDITIONS UNFAVOURABLE.

During the past two or three days conditions have been unfavourable for the aerial survey work being undertaken by Capt. Buckley on behalf of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, and consequently no flights have been made. Yesterday an attempt was made, but the clouds being too low for successful photography, the endeavour had to be abandoned. The ’plane will remain here until such time as the work can be completed. Two ndys more flying will lie necessary before the. mosaic of the Manawatu basin can lie finished.

Air Yendon, official photographer for the N.Z. Forces, arrived in Foxton on Tuesday.to take over the photographic branch of the undertaking. A temporary developing room has been fixed up in Palmerston N., and immediately further photos arc taken they will he developed by Mr Yea don, who will refil the magazine of the camera with fresh plates. The enmera itself has been titled with a now four-inch lens, and is now secured to the door of the cockpit, and in future perpendicular photos will be taken.

Mr Yeadon is an expert air photographer, and was selected out ol 500 applicants for the position as official photographer to the N.Z. Forces, lie had special experience in this brairch of photography at the front during the Great War. PUBLIC WjORKS ENGINEERS VISIT FLOOD AREA.

Mr. Hay (engineer to the Mana watu-Oroua River Board) informed our representative that on Tuesday and Wednesday Mr Hannan, Inspecting Engineer of the Public Works Department, was in Foxton, and made an inspection of the breaks in the flood-banks in the surrounding district caused by the recent flood. The inspection was in response to the River Board’s ajiplication for a Government subsidy to assist in repairing flood damage, which was granted.last week. Mr Hannan went over all the banks with a view to estimating the cost, and seeing work was necessary. Mr. Hay informed our representative that Mr Hannan was perfectly satisfied that the work was urgent, and expressed himself as absolutely in accord with the work being pushed on as soon as possible.
