THE AWAHURI SENSATION
SUTHERLAND PLEADS GUILTY.
SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS
At the Palmerston Supreme Court yesterday Ernest Taniw'ha Sutherland was placed in the dock to stand his trial on charges that on or about February 10, 1020, at Awahuri, he did do actual bodily harm to Ranginawa Sutherland, his wife and Ngnaere Drummond, his mother-in-law, and he wilfully set tire to the house of' Richard Drummond.
The accused, who was not represented by counsel, amended his plea of not guilty on all charges, with the words: “I wish to alter my plea to guilty.”
Mr. Justice Reed, this morning, after hearing a plea on prisoner’s behalf by Mr Ongley, sentenced Sutherland to seven years on each of the three charges, the sentences to be concurrent.
