PUNT FOUND ON BEACH.

Last week a local Beach resident discovered a punt on the ocean beach between two and three miles north of the bar. The dimensions of the vessel are 45 feet by 16 feet and it was upside down when discovered.

As a result of enquiries being made Mr. N. Crofton Staveley (Wanganui City Engineer) visited Foxton last Saturday and inspected tfie punt and recognised it as one which had broken away from its moorings on the northern side of the Dublin Street Bridge, Wanganui, during the recent floods. The punt was portion of the Wanganui Harbour Board’s plant used for supplying local bodies with gravel of a very high grade, dredged from the riverbed. It is in good condition, despite the severe buffeting it must have received while being carried down the coast by the strong southward rip of the current.

Capt. Larsen informed our representative this morning that Mr. Crofton Staveley was making enquiries about having the punt refloated and towed back to Wanganui by a tug. The punt would be worth this expenditure, be said, as it would cost a considerable sum to build. It is understood that more gear belonging to the dredge is washed up on the Leviirißeach.
