FOXTON RACING CLUB.
ANNUAL REPORT. The .following is the annual report of the committee to be submitted to members at the annual meeting to be held in the Masonic Hall on August 9th: — “Your Committee has pleasure in presenting the Report and Balancesheet for the year ending 30th June, 192 G, which shows a most satisfactory improvement on recent years.
“Notwithstanding a slight decrease in totalisator returns, the profits made on the meeting exceed those made in the previous year. Furthermore the year last past is the first occasion since the 19201921 season that our Trading Account has shown a profit. This happy result was occasioned partly through continued economy on the part of your Committee and partly through a slight reduction in taxation granted by the Government. Wlhile appreciating the relief granted in this respect we, in common with other Racing Clubs, protest against the heavy demands made on our resources by the Revenue Department and trust that further reductions in taxation will be made at an early date. “Since the last Annual Meeting considerable improvements have been effected on the racecourse property. A straight start for the six furlong races has been completed, and will be ready for use at our next race-meeting. This alteration will be highly appreciated by owners, trainers and jockeys, while the public will have a much better view of the races.
“Since January last a contract was let for the alteration, enlargement and shifting of the Stewards’ Stand. This work has been completed and the old building has been replaced by a commodious and serviceable structure.
“The lawn accommodation and bird cage enclosure have been enlarged, and the hill in front of the Tea Kiosk has been terraced so that tha public may use the same as a grandstand. “The road to the..members’ enclosure has been metalled and is now fit for general traffic. The racing tracks are being maintained in first class order and the property in good repair. “Owing to the resignation of Mr. L. Proctor from the position of caretaker, your committee advertised the position and after careful examination of the 73 applications received, appointed' Mr. Simpson, late caretaker at Fcilding, to the position. Your committee feels confident that Mr. Simpson will worthily carry out the important duties attached to the position. “The Club has been allotted Friday and Saturday, 21st and 22nd January, 1927, for the next Race Meeting. “The following officials retire this year, but are eligible for re-election: —President, Mr. J. R. Whyte; Vicepresidents, Messrs W. E. Barber, R. Bryant, 11. Coley, C. E. Robinson; Stewards, Messrs. M. B. Bergin, W. T. Jewell and J. Purcell. As there are no further nominations an election will not be necessary.
“It is with deep regret that we have to record the death of Mr. 0. Robinson, who for many years was a prominent member of the Club.”
