“POMPOLONAS AND HOT SPUDS.”

♦ •AT ’ARD UP DANCE.. The Sports Queen carnival committee did not foresee the dire results of the “pompolonas and hot spuds” supper served at the ’Ard up dance in the Masonic Hall on Saturday night or they woidd have cut this primitive and .decidedly sticky item out of the function. The edibles were served on saucers and each guest was provided with a neatly cut serviette from newspapers. The committee’s arrangements left nothing to complain about, but a number of the recipients realising that little damage could be done to the “’ard up” costumes indulged in horse-play by throwing the potatoes about with the result that the state of the floor can be better imagined than described. Apart from this two or three young men from outside Foxton found their way to the hall decidedly under the influence of liquor and their conduct was a source of worry to the committee. The committee, unfortunately, * were unable to exercise full control over the gathering, but state that at any future function any person who attempts to misbehave will be peremptorily ejected. During the evening items were contributed by Messrs Jacob and Hakaraia.
