BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. , The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held last night. CORRESPONDENCE, was read and dealt with as follows : From the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club asking for permission to use Easton Park as the finishing post in connection with the forthcoming road race. —Granted. From Mr. R. McMullian requesting permission to encroach nine inches on the footpath outside his premises for the purpose of erecting steps.—Refused. From W. D. Bauckham requesting a refund of money deposited' with the Council for repair of footpath after the erection of a benzine pump, over and above the actual repair cost. —Granted. From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, congratulating the Council on the suec.css of the Town Hall loan, and also commending the Council on the expeditious manner they have adopted in rebuilding the Hall. —Received. GENERAL. It was resolved to advise the deputation from Union Street which waited on the Council at its last meeting requesting a footpath on the south side of the street that the matter would be favourably considered when the loan works were completed. It was resolved that the offer of Restar Ltd., to hire the Council a tar boiler be accepted as from the end of October, the Town Clerk to enquire as to purchase. It was decided to request the Manawatu County Council to take over the control and administration of the various boundary roads of the borough, the proportion of maintenance cost to each local body to remain as at present. WATER. AND DRAINAGE REPORT. The waterworks foreman (Mr. W. Neville) reported that during the month a sewer, and water connection had been laid to a residence in Gladstone St., and water to a house in Jenks street. A new hoarding had been erected at the south end of Main St., the artesian pipe line on the foreshore repaired and speeding motorists attended to. The top tank of the water tower had also been cleaned out and general maintenance work attended to. Pumping Station Report). —Duiing 'the month 985,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 30.5 amps. —Adopted. > ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (Mr. G. Huntley) reported as follows on the work undertaken by the road staff during the past month: — Drains in Avenue lid., east of Spring St., Baker and Howan Sts. and No. 6 Line have been cleaned out. The loose metal in Johnston and Purcell Sts have been blinded, the footpaths a,t the corner of Main and Clyde Sts. repaired, and ruts patched in Victoria St. and Lady’s Mile. A footpath in Purcell St. has also been formed. The staff is now engaged in metalling streets in connection with the No. 3 Loan. Metal is now coming .to hand freely. That from Kakariki is being spread cm Victoria and Park Sts., and a considerable amount used for patching. Upwards of 200 yards of metal lias been spread on the two-above-mentioned streets. A . start was also made with the grading of footpaths, but this work will now have to be held up while the staff concentrates on road woik. grader is needed for this work. Adopted. It was resolved that Crs. Thompson and Woods and the road foreman inspect the Manawatu County Council’s road grader with a view to purchasing same.
