CHARGE OF ABDUCTION.

FARM HA!ND COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Gisborne, July 10. Alfred Harry Jones, a farm hand, of Ormond, was 'charged this morning with abduction and assault, in respect to a girl aged 131. The evidence showed that Jones took the girl from Gisborne to Rotorua, where he was arrested. At the suggestion of the Magistrate, (he assault charge was withdrawn, t here being no evidence in support of it. On the charge of abduction, the accused made a statement to the effect that lie took the child away because she was iiaving-a hard life at home. He bad intended taking her to his father’s place at Dargaville. Medical evidence showed that there bad been no interference with the girl. The accused pleaded guilty to the abduction, and was committed to Auckland for sentence.
