BILLIARDS.

Local billiardists were afforded an opportunity last evening to witness Mr. Clarke MeConachy, New Zealand’s champion player, in action at Bryant’s rooms, when he conceded 200 to Mr. Tom Tot-hill, North England champion? in a game of 1000 up. The champion pulled up his handicap in his second break of 213 in brilliant all round play. In a subsequent break of 248 he gave a line exhibition of all-round shots. ITis other past century breaks were 120 and 118. Tie ran out on his sixteenth shot with an unfinished break of 70 amidst a hearty round of applause. Mr. Tot hill’s best break was ICO, his total reaching 555 (including 200 handicap). In the snooker game MeConachy scored 08 and Tothill 30. At the conclusion of the games Mr. MeConachy gave an exhibition of dever trick shots which were much appreciated. The champion's manipulations with the cue throughout was an education to those present, and his prescience, sense of balance, touch and distance are marvellous. There is no denying that MeConachy is one of the world’s greatest billiardists. Mr. E. Bryant had charge of the score board.
