TAXI-DRIVER’S STRANGE INJURY.
PETROL-SOAKED CLOTHES CATCH FIRE. Christchurch, Last Night. A taxi-driver, Mr. E. Newman, employed by Ihe Rink Taxis, Ltd., was seriously injured this morning through his clothes catching fire. He is now in the Christchurch Public Hospital. Newman is a married man, residing at 49 Bangor street. Ihe accident happened at his home. It is said Newman’s clothes must have had petrol on them. He struck a match to light a cigarette, and his clothes burst into flames. Before the flames could be extniguished, Newman was burned severely about the hands, face and body. His condition in serious, but had improved to-night.
