PRESENTATION TO MISS OWEN.
BY FOXTON TENNIS CLUB. A very pleasant function took place at the residence of Mrs Hay on Thursday evening when members of the Fox ton Tennis Club met to make a presentation to and farewell Miss E. Owen on the evo of her departure for Wellington, where she is to enter the nursing profession. There was a good attendance and dancing was indulged in and a pleasant social time spent. At a suitable juncture during the evening Mr. McMnrray, on behalf of the Club, asked Miss Owen to accept a handsome luminous gold and marble eight-day bed-room •clock, suitably inscribed, as a token of esteem in which she is held by the Club members. In doing so, he regretted tlie loss the club was sustaining by the departure of Miss Owen, who besides being a good player was a hardworking and enthusiastic member, who had always done her share of any work offering, and even more than her share. In play she had always evinced the true spirit of sportsmanship and her success in play had been well and honestly deserved. Miss Owen had started at . -the bottom of the ladder, and had, in a very short time, reached the top, and was now holding the position of leading lady player. Miss Owen was a popular member of the Club and one whom they could ill afford to lose. She had been inspired with the desire for nursing, however, and was leaving Foxton to gratify "that desire. Such an ambition as that of attending to suffering humanity was very good and noble, and he congratulated Miss Owen on her high ideals. With regard to her tennis abilities lie bad much pleasure in presenting her with a miniature of the Walton Bose Bowl, which trophy she had won two years in succession. (Applause). “For She's A Jolly Good Fellow” was then sung and cheers given for the guest of the evening. Mr. B. Owen suitably responded on behalf of his daughter.
Miss Owen, who for the past four years has occupied the position of Town Clerk’s assistant, is (he possessor of a very fine disposition and was always courteous and obliging to all with whom she came in contact in her business capacity, and will be greatly missed from the Council Chambers. Her position as a member of the Foxton Tenni Club will be bard to fill. Miss Owen was a all-round sport. Miss Owen was a hockey enthusiast and took a keen delight in rowing and swimming and all outdoor sports. We join in wishing her success in the profession in which lie is about to engage.
