CORRESPONDENCE.

(To The Editor).

Sir, —I do not wish tp appear as a “Jonah” but do you not think that the townspeople are being ov-er-taxed •with appeals for this, that and the other thing at the present time, when business people and others are -complaining of hard times. What with carnivals for Moutoa and Foxton, shop-days and •competition ticket sellers on the streets, Foxton is getting a bad spin. I think, sir, one thing should be attempted or conducted at a time instead of half-a-dozen together. I don’t say hut what all the objects are deserving of support, but when they come on the public like an epidemic, it’s coming a bit too strong. Our population is small and the same people arc being hit up week after week. Talk about increasing the iates, why, sir, these carnival stunts are ten times worse than rates would be for the same objects. Could not the Borough Council take steps to license one thing at a time and a spell between each? In my opinion this tax on the people should be limited. Thanking you in anticipation, I am etc., CITIZEN.
