INCREASED POSTAL FACILITIES.
DKITT.VI lON TO POSTMASTER BY CHAMBER OE COMMERCE. A deputation from the local Chamber of Commerce consisting of Messrs Christie, 11. Osborne, D. Ballou, Winsiunley and the secretary (Mr. R. llornblow) waited on the Postmaster this morning with Pie following requests: — 1. That the incoming !* pm. ■mail be sorted on arrival each night; (2) That the South Island mail dost at 3 p.m. instead of 12.45 p.m. in order to connect with the ferry boat and (3) that the Wellington mail (dose at ■(> nun. instead of 8 p.m. daily. The Postmaster (Mr. Newton) said he would recommend Ihe
changes. The South Island mail was already closing as suggested, lie stressed the faff, however, that if more people would take up post office boxes the Chamber would have a better chance of having their requests acceded to. The deputation thanked .the Postmaster for his patient hearing and withdrew.
It was staled that four nurses would visit Eoxton, probably on July 10th, when the local committee would co-operate with them in the sale of badges.
