FOXTON CROQUET CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Foxton Croquet Club was held in the Blanket room on Tuesday evening. There was an excellent attendance of members. Mr. M. E. Perreau, president of (he Bowling Club, occupied the chair and in opening the meeting, said he wished to compliment the Club on the good work they had done in the way of improving their green during the past two years. He assured them that the Bowling Club were willing to do all they could to assist the Croquet Club during the coming season. TIIE ANNUAL REPORT was read as follows: —“The season 1925-26 has been very, satisfactory, all members being keen and anxious for play. The season opened on October 14th under very unfavourable weather condition. Owing to the new grass being rather delicate, the club decided to act on Mr. Xcwth’s advice and limit the play to one day a week only, for the first month, which proved very satisfactory and gave the grass a.good start, which resulted in a very good green for tho season’s play. The green was opened for regular play on November 13th. The club lost a very enthusiastic member in the person of Mrs Head, who has left this district. On October 241 h a successful shop day was held resulting in the amount of £9 3s 3d he ing added to the club’s funds. Keen interest was shown in the “Handicap Singles,” (12 matches being played, resulting in Mrs Moore winning the lirst prize and Mrs Owen second. The points prize, which is don'ated for the player scoring most points apart from first and second place, was won by Mrs Woods. The half-hour tournament: which was held every Wednesday proved very interesting and resulted ih Mrs. Owen winning the A grade and Mrs Ball the B grade. The interest taken in Ladder Matches at the beginning of: the season, seemed lo go off as soon as the Handicap Singles started, only 19 Ladder Matches being played during the season. Two of our players, Mrs Me Murray and Mrs Moore, entered in the Manawatu Croquet Association Tournament, held at Palmerston in February, and were successful in Mrs McMurray securing first place and Mrs Moore second, in the B grade Handicap Singles. These two players also won the Manawatu Handicap Doubles. On February 2nd this club played Levin club for the Hornblow Badges, and were successful in bringing the Badges to their home club by a margin of 9 points. This club entered the Manawatu Inter-Club matches and keen interest was shown by the players and some good games were played, this club gaining 312 points out of a possible of 412. The cluh also entered in the Ilorowhenua Inter-club matches in which it gained second place. Very little interest was' taken in the Stewart Shields competition, likewise the Nye Mallets, only one game being’ played in each eompetiFion during the whole season. Mrs Woods and Mrs Ball being the present holders of the former and Mrs McMurray and Mrs Moore the latter. At the end of March, it was decided to keep the green open for play another month instead of closing with the Bowling Club as in previous years. During the. season (lie Bowling Club supplied a new set of Davidson’s Hoops, which were greatly appreciated by the players. After the closing of the green Mr. Newtli was engaged to top dress it, and it is hoped to he a perfect green for next season’s play. The Iwlance-slieet showed a credit of £4 lfis Ifld. The receipts for Die year (including a credit of £2 17s id from last year) totalled £l7 15s 8d; and expenditure £l3 18s Hid. The chairman, in speaking to the report, complimented the secretary on the comprehensive report submitted on the Club’s activites during the past’ season. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted ns follows: — President, Mrs R. Bryant; vicepresident, Mrs M. E. Perreau; lion, see., Mrs R. Owen; committee, Mesdames R. McMurray, J. M. Barr, H. Downes, R. Moore. The regulations governing play during the season were then read and the following added: — That the ladder be placed in order acording to official handicaps, ladder matches for the first six players to be best of three games;
that the team for the Manawatu In-ler-Club matches shall play in the order in which they are on the ladder, that for Wednesday social afternoon competitions, the usual 30liiinute tournament be played for four weeks, breaks and cut-off shots for the next four weeks, these competitions to continue in this order throughout the season; that the usual handicap singles be played, play to start one month after opening day; Is entrance fee to he charged for competitions. A letter received from the Manawatu Croquet Association, submitting proposed new rules was discussed. —The secretary (Mrs. Owen) was appointed delegate to the Association’s annual meeting. Mesdames Pearson and Owen were authorised to operate on the hank account. Mrs Owen donated a trophy for the B grade Wednesday tournament. The resignation of Mrs A. Evans was accepted with regret. Votes of thanks were aeorded the following:—Retiring president, donors of trophies for last season’s matches, the Herald and the auditor (Mr. D. Christie).
