The death has occurred at Timaru of Mr. John Mcßobbie, for many years a resident, of South Canterbury, and reputed to be a centenarian, his age being given as 109. MY. Mcßobbie was wonderfully active and alert till his end. Doubts are entertained regarding the validity of the claim that he was a centenarian.

Horowhcnua has not'been overlooked so far asj concerns nominations for the New Zealand Maori team thdt will tour France. The selector (Mr. M. Wiiniata) has submitted the names of Tatana, Tana, Moses and Maihi from this district, H. Jacob and Meta Johnson being not available.

To-morrow is being observed as Foreign Mission Sunday in the local Methodist circuit. Rev. W. S. Neal will conduct the 1 oxton sei vices morning and evening, and 1 also preach at Oroua Downs at 2.30 p.m. The offerings at all places in the circuit will be devoted to the aid of foreign missions. The Fox ton choir will contribute an anthem at the evening service.

The death of Mr. John I. Morton, who passed away at his residence Carlyle street, Mosgiel, on June 14th, leaves another gap in the ranks of the early pioneers. He arrived in the Victory in 1803, and resided in the Clutha District for many years, where he was a well known and. successful farmer. On retiring lie went to live in Mosgiel. Although of a quiet disposition lie was widely known and highly respected. He leaves a widow and four of a family to mourn their loss. Mrs A. J. Henderson, Palmerston South, Mrs Frank Petrie Fox ton, Air. J. S. Alorton, and Aliss Alorton, Alosgiel.
