ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Ashburton, June 8,
Peter Barrie, a farmer, of Tinwald, lias been seriously injured. He had jacked a wliare up for repairs and was underneath on his back when a jack slipped. Mrs Barrie attempted to get him out with a spade. Assistance came at length and Barrie was admitted to the hospital in a semi-conscious condition. Blood transfusion was necessary, a neighbour’s employee giving the blood required. Though still critical, Barrie’s condition is slightly improved. Auckland, June 8.
William George Partridge, aged 40, a married man, fell from a launch three miles off the shore in Manukau Harbour at 7 o'clock last night. His companion, J. Reece, was attending’ the engine below, and heard the boom swing over. Going on deck he found that Mr. Partridge had disappeared. He anchored the launch and searched with a dinghy, assisted by a party from another launch, but no trace of the missing man. was found. Mr. Patridge was a good swimmer, but was wearing heavy gum boots.
