HOCKEY.

W.E.O.G. (0) v. FOXTON (2). The oft postponed match between the above teams took place on Easton. Park yesterday afternoon before a fair number of spectators and “barrackers” of the young male sex who seemed to confine Rugby breaches with the hockey code. Their chorused interjections in this connection were at times most amusing. The game was very interesting and closely contested in the first spell which ended W.E.O.G. 2, Foxton 1. Shortly before halftime, Miss Walls, who. had been playing a great game for the home team was struck over the eye with the hall and had to retire. In the early part of the second spell Mrs Arens had the misfortune to put her wrist out and retired. Both vacancies were filled by substitutes. The Palmerston team played with combination and dash and time and again broke through Foxton’s defence in the second spell. Conspicuous among the locals were Misses Barber, Vertongen, Spring, Gower, Stevenson, Walls and Mrs Arcus, who equalised the dash of the visitors. Had Foxton been able to retain the services of Miss Walls and Airs Arcus, the scores may have been equalised. Aliss Vert ongen shot two goals for Foxton and Misses E. Jones and Af. Stratton netted goals for the visitors. Alessrs W. Scott and Clarke refereed.
