FOOTBALL CLUB.
The usual weekly meeting of the Foxton Football Club was held in Walls’ rooms last night, presided over by the President (Mr. H. Hutchins, Also present were Messrs J. IC. Hornblow, A l . Stevenson, G. Smith, S. Austin, R, McMurray, M. Cook, W. Neville and the secretary (Mr. Barron).
CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows :
From the Union stating that the application of Cole and Kilsby tq play for Foxton was granted provided the players were financial to Wjeraroa Club. Also informing the club that the case of a local player being intoxicated while on the field of play will be dealt with at next meeting. Foxton was also notified that they had been fined 7/6 owing to three local players wearing wrong colours. —Received. From same, notifying that Moses, Fuller and O’Reilly had been selected to play in the Maori v. Pakeha match. —Received. From the Foxton Tennis Club suggesting that the Football and Bowling Clubs meet with a view to combining in some effort to raise money needed by the three clubs for improvements.
In further enlightening the Club on the matter, Mr. McMurray said it was the intention of the Tennis Club to raise the money by means of an art union. It had been suggested that the three clubs mentioned each obtain £5 from ten members, when pooled making a total of £l5O. This would be the prize money needed for the art union. It had also been suggested that the first prize be £IOO and that the remaining £SO be divided up into small prizes. In this manner it was hoped to raise £IOOO of which each club would have an equal share.
The matter was given consideration and it was decided that the President and Secretary represent the Club at the meeting. The chairman reported that Western United were desirous of playing a game, either Senior or Junior, with Foxton before the end of the season, the fixture to be an annual one.
The chairman reported that Mr. Proctor had approached him on behalf of thei local ladies with an offer to hold a shop day in aid of the Club’s funds.
Mrs Proctor’s offer was accepted with thanks and it was decided that the Club meet the ladies and discuss the matter.
Mr. Hornblow brought up the question of providing a social evening for all club members.—To be discussed by the players and to be dealt with at next meeting.
Mjr. Petrie was present and out r lined his scheme to raise funds for the club by means of cribbage tournaments. —It was decided to hold the matter over until it had been discussed by the women. REFEREE'S FOR SATURDAY. Mr. W. Neville will referee the Miranui v. Foxton Junior match on the racecourse on Saturday. Mr. Henri will have control of the Fourths game, Foxton D. 11.5. v. Shanon, at Miranui. NORTHERN MAORI TEAM CHOSEN. The northern team for the Maori Rugby trial match at Gisborne on June 19th is as follows: Johnson (Horowhenua). Falwasser (Taranaki). Barclay (Hawke’s Bay). L. Grace (Te Ante). Love (Wellington). Pelham (Auckland),. Shoitland (Hawkes Bay). S. Gemmell (Hawke’s Bay). Ohlsen (North Auckland). T. Gemmell (Hawke’s Bay). Rika (North Auckland). Swainson (Hawke’s Bay). Matene (North Auckland). Heke (Rotorua). Reside (Wairarapa). Emergencies: Wineera (Wellington), Morrison (Bay of Plenty), Solomon (Auckland).
