FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT, The annual general meeting of members of the Foxton Bowling Club will be held in Pcrrcau’s rooms on Thursday evening next. The date of this annual meeting has been put forward this year for the reason that club members considered it advisable to elect officers and working committees a,s early as possible after the closing of the playing season, so that the incoming officials could put their policy into operation early in the close season. The general meeting on this occasion will take the form of a social evening similar to that -held last month. The following is the annual report of the Committee to be presented at the meeting together with the balance-sheet: — “Your Committee have pleasure in presenting the balance-sheet for the year ending May 31st, 1926. The Club’s assets, after allowing for depreciation, are £509 5s 3d, liabilities £224 11s Bd, leaving a surplus of £284 13s 7d. Early- in September last several members undertook the top-dressing of the green with sharp sand, in readiness for the opening of play, and much credit is due to those who assisted in this work. The season opened 1 on Wednesday, October 14th, 1925, under very unfavourable conditions. Several clubs in the Centro were represented, but very little play was indulged in. Early in the season the Club lost a most enthusiastic member in (he person of Mr S. Head, who removed from the district, and recently the Club has lost another popular member, Mr. E. Healey, who has taken up his residence in Wellington. Your Committee greatly regrets the loss of these two members. The Triangular Shield contest was completed early in the season, by mutual arrangement, Levin Club again being successful in winning the trophy, with Shannon second. In-ter-club visits were arranged with Levin, Otaki and Palmerston N., and were much enjoyed. Owing to the unsatisfactory state of road communication with Shannon, the usual pleasant visits between Foxton and Shannon Clubs were greatly curtailed. This has been a distinct social loss, as Shannon Club has always been very popular with Foxton bowlers. Champion of champion games were held in Palmerston North, and we much regret that our club was not represented; the rink chosen for the Dixon Cup was unable to fulfil the engagement. Your Club was represented by a rink at the Wanganui Christmas Tournament, and another rink took part in the New Year Tournament at Woodvillc, but were unsuccessful in securing any trophies. At Easter a rink competed in the Palmerston North tournament, and were successful in reaching the semi-finals, and are to be congratulated on their fine performance. The season as a whole has not been a good one, partly owing to the very wet weather we experienced during the latter part of last year; also members did not take advantage of competitions as arranged. The only trophies which seemed to cause much interest were the Nye Ferns, a good many exceedingly fine games resulting. Your committee wish to thank the ladies for their efforts in maintaining their Croquet Green and supervising the afternoon teas. It is sincerely hoped that next season will be a highly successful one and that members will do their utmost to increase the membership. Members should rally round the incoming committee and give them all the support necessary to make the club a huge success. Your committee desire to thank Mr. D. Whibley (green supt.) Mr. J. M. Thomson for carting soil, etc., Mr. M. H. Walker for donating soil, and Mr. T. Wt Winstanley for manure, etc.
