PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.

A meeting of tlie committee set up to organise an effort to raise funds for the construction of public swimming baths was held on Tuesday evening, presided over by Mr, Perreau. There were also present : Messrs Barron, J. K. Hornblow, Hutchins, McMurray, Warwick, Del any. Mr Delany tendered his resignation as secretary and organiser owing to his inability to devote the time to the position. —The resignation was received with regret and it was decided to reimburse Mr. Delany for out of pocket expenses incurred. Mr. Barron was appointed lion, secretary. The chairman reported that the canvass for guarantors for the purchase of alluvial gold to the value of £SOO for the art union had not been successful as the security offered was considered too risky. Mr. Warwick said he had been informed that the swimming baths was the stumbling block to the art union. If the proceeds from the art union were divided between the sports bodies, including the swimming club, more interest would have been taken in the effort. The swimming club could have transferred its share of the profits to the swimming baths.

It was pointed out that the primary object of the art union was for swimming baths. Mr.' McMurray said the Tennis Club required funds to meet the expenditure on the club’s new grounds and they bad held off from making a public, appeal for funds so as not to conflict with the swimming baths effort. The club would now lie justified on going on with their effort.

Mr. Delany said that he had received an application for 1500 art union books.

The chairman staled that Mrs Perreau bad consented to convene a meeting of ladies to ascertain what steps could he taken to assist the both movements.

After further desultary discusion it was deffided to defer any further action until the ladies had held a meeting.
