WANGANUI LICENSING BENCH.
ATTEMPT TO UNSEAT MEMBER FAILS Wanganui, May 20. Judgment was given yesterday in a case heard by Mr. Justice Alpers in the Supreme Court recently in which it was sought to remove A. G. Bignell from the Wanganui Licensing Bench, the action being brought by Samuel H. Shepherd. Plaintiff’s order was refused and costs were allowed amounting to twelve guineas. The action was brought on the grounds that Bignell. was a share-holder of Foster’s Hotel at the time of the licensing election, and that he might be biased •in his opinions on licensing matters. The judge held that there was not the least evidence of bias or that Bignell had taken part in any decision in which there .might be reasonable apprehension of bias.
