BETWEEN CAR AND DELIVERY VAN. MIRACULOUS ESCAPES. . Dr. Wyllie’s car and Air. 1L Bryant’s delivery van met in violent collision at Sorensen’s Corner, Himatangi, between 3 and 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. R. Bryant was approaching- Sorensen’s Store from Koputara Road, and making in the direction of Baincsse, while Dr. Wyllie was proceeding to Or on a Downs. Both drivers apparently failed to notice each other’s approach and the result was a collision on the intersection.

Mr. A. Carke, P. & T. linesman, of Fox ton, was an eye witness to llie accident and stated to our representative that prior to the accident lie was proceeding towards Oroua Downs, just ahead of Dr. Wyllie. As lie passed over the intcrsectiin he noticed Mr. Bryant approaching and waved to him. Air. Bryant also recognised Mr. Clarke. Immediately after passing Mr. Bryant, Afr. Clarke realised that a collision was imminent as Dr. Wyllie was not very far behind him and he swung his motor bike round and was just in time to witness the collision . Mr. Bryant’s van struck Dr. Wyllie’s car right in the middle of the left side and the back portion of the van, rearing up in the air, turned a complete somersault over the doctors car and landed upside down on tho road. Dr. Wyllie’s car swerved coming to rest with its front wheels facing Fox I on. The drivers of both vehicles were pinned beneath the wreckage and the cars had to he lifted up before they could be extricated. Dr. Wyllie, who miraculously, was not hurt, tint jnmbed down by the steeringwheel of his car, was able to direct Air. Clarke and others in the lifting tif the ear and after being relieved from bis precarious position, assisted with the extricating of Afr. Bryant. Afr. Bryant had fared worse and was unconscious when picked up, having sustained head injuries. He was removed to Air. Sorensen’s store where lie received medical attention at the hands of Dr Wyllie, the*doeior la tori proceeding to a call at Oroua Downs in Mr. A. Ross’ car, which had arrived on the scene. Mr. Bryant was later removed to his home where a subesequenl medical examination showed that lie had suffered severe cuts about the head and received bruises to the chest and leg. The van is wrecked. The doctor’s car is also badly damaged and was lowed into town last night.

We are pleased to state that Air. Bryant pased a good night and is progressing satisfactorily.
