OROUA DOWNS.

SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION TO MR. AND MRS. HAMMOND. A “send-off” and presentation were tendered to Mr. and Mrs M. Hammond in the Oroua Downs Hall on Monday evening by friends and settlers throughout the district. The representative attendance taxed the accommodation of the hall to its limits, testifying to the popularity of the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond were the recipients of a valuable oak cabinet of cutlery and several presentations to members of the family. Mr. M. E. Perrean, Mayor of Foxton, in making the presentation expressed regret at the departure from the district of such popular settlers and conveyed to them the host wishes oC the countryside for their future happiness and prosperity. Mr. Hammond feelingly acknowledged the spirit which prompted tho gifts and sincerely thanked them for the kindly expressions and tokens of good will. were contributed by Misses Madge Much appreciative vocal items Taylor and Palmer (of Palmerston North. (The former a pupil of Mr. Garde Grimshaw, the well-known voice-producing expert). , Mrs Grimshaw, accompanied the vocalists. Dancing was kept up till the small hours of the morning. Mr. and Mrs Hammond leave for Wiaverley this week, where Mr. Hammond will engage in farming pursuits.
