FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

+ — MONTHLY MEETING. When discussing matters in connection with the electric lighting at the Manawatu Heads, Mr. Nash asked at Saturday’s meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board if it would not be possible for the Board to purchase its meters outright. As it was, a charge of lOd per month was being made for the meters by the Power Board. Mr. Barber, who is a member of the Horowhenua Power Board, said that that matter had been well discussed by the Power Board, but it was considered that it was not advisable to allow meters to be purchased at this early stage of the Power Board’s career. He had no objection to the request being forwarded on to the Board. It was decided to endeavour to purchase the-meters. FLAX REFUSE. Mr. McMurray again brought before the Board’s notice the fact that flax refuse was still being dumped into the river, and suggested that the Marine Department be written to stating that as yet no action had been taken by. them to prevent millers from depositing flax refuse in the river and asking that an inspector be sent to inspect the river and take action. The chairman reported that he had interviewed the Minister of Marine on the matter and had been informed that the Marine Department only had control over river outside the Board’s area. It was decided to request the Marine Department to deal with those millers outside the Board s area. FLAXMILL RENTALS. The secretary reported that several local millers had objected to paying the rental fixed by the Board for flaxmill sites. After discussion it was decided that the Board’s solicitor be iequested to supply the necessary boundaries of Board property to the secretary and that demands for payment of rentals be made foithwith.

CORRESPONDENCE • was read and dealt with as follows : •From Beach residents situated Oil the Beach front from the Hall road to Mr. Tattersall’s property, asking permission to extend their front fences in order to eliminate the present drifting sand nuisance. —Held over until next meeting, when a deputation from the Beach Improvement Society will wait on the Board.

From AY. M. Wilson, asking permission to erect a shell on the liver bank near N.ve’s mill to accommodate fishing gear. —Left in bands of local committee with power to act. From Mr. D. Fabling, Longbnrn, complaining that bis section at the Heads had been interfered with bv stock and stating that on one occasion two boys had been seen to remove the gate from its binges in order to allow horses and cows to graze in the section. If such a state of affairs was allowed to go on the lease would be thrown up and a section taken at Paraparaumu or Plinimerton. A good tenant had been lost last year through the cows complained of destroying vegetables planted on the section by the tenant.—Referred to the Pilot to take action if nuisance occurs again. , . , From Mr. Mortcnsen objecting to Board meetings not being held regularly. The chairman said that meetings had not been held owing to a set of unfortunate circumstances, which he outlined. Mr. Mortensen said that be was quite satisfied after bearing the cliairman’s explanation. He would like to see the meetings held monthly, nevertheless. ' It was decided the meetings be held on the fourth Monday in each month, next meeting to be held m Palmerston North unless the annual meeting falls on that day. Mr. Chrystall expressed a desire to know bow the Board was progressing and it was decided that the focal committee go into the matter find bring down <i icpoit* The local committee’s proposal to use explosives to remove a log at Robinson’s Bend was agreed to and the Pilot was instructed to proceed with the work immediately.
