FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A special meeting of the above committee was held last night to receive and pass the balance-sheet for the school year ending February 28th. There were present: — Messrs Wioods (chairman), Bangiheuca (secretary), Rev. W. IT. Walton, J. K. Hornblow, Hutchins, A!lso)>, Jno. Ross and the headmaster (Mr. F. Mason). The balance-sheet, duly audited, was presented, discussed and adopted. The dealy in presenting the balance-sheet was explained as due to the straightening out of a number of accounts and extraordinary expenditure during the year. Votes of thanks were accorded the past secretary and to Mr. Rangiheuea for the time he had devoted to the matter. The balance-sheet showed receipts for the year (including credit of £152 10s 2d carried over from last year) £387 13s fid, and expenditure £415 4s lid, leaving a credit balance of £124 18s 9d. The pricipal items of receipts were: subsidies uplifted from previous years £IOO, grants for incidental purposes £197, voluntary contributions returned £3l 15s fid, concreting residence £3 12s Od, nett proceeds of entertainments £25 (is Od. rent of old residence £3O. Expenditure: cleaning main school £IOO, side school £4, D. 11.5. £1 10s, gas £3 11s 2d, fuel £l4 17s 4d, water charge £l4 lfis Bd, repairs and maintenance £5 13s 9d, stationery £2 14s fid, printing and stationery £(5 8s fid, school library £3B 15s 7d, concrete paths etc £l5O, voluntary contributions paid to Board for subsidy purposes £3l lfis fid, toys £2 5s od, cabinet £1 0s fid, travelling expenses £2, basket ball £1 15s 7iC book case £1 15s od, concert £5 17s 9d. picnic expenses £2 0s fid, pergola £9 7s 9d, school requisites £5 17s Id, concrete at residence £8 11s 9d, current A/c fee 10s, unpresented cheques £7 0s fid, leaving a balance in bank of £(i(> 17s 7d, in hand £25, in p.o.s.b. £33 Is 2d. The method of tiring the school boiler and attention to radiators were discussed and the chairman was authorised to have pipes attended to and that in future coke for the boiler furnace is to be crushed and damped before using and sawdust to be applied. Formal correspondence from the Board was read and dealt with and aecounts'passed for payment. A vote of thanks was passed to the Horowhenua Rugby Union for gift of football. It was decided to apply to the Board for heating apparatus for the temporary high school class rooms.
