CENSUS RETURNS.
The European population of the boroughs of Foxton, Shannon, Otaki and Levin at the past three census takings are as follows: —
It will be noticed that Foxton’s population is slightly below that of a decade ago, but on the other hand the borough has made marked progress in other respects. We need only mention the construction of high-pressure water supply and sewerage system, up-to-date tirelighting station and equipment, electric- light supplementing the municipal_gas works and blocks of new buildings, including one of the most modern primary schools in the Dominion. The population and progress of the seaside resort, just outside the borough area, has also made wonderful progress, which more than nompensates for any falling off in population in the borough proper.
