SHOOTING SEASON ACCIDENTS.
TWO YOUTHS INJURED,
Dargaville, Last Night. Two serious shooting accidents occurred in this district at the beginning of the week. On Sunday, a lad named Davidson was out shooting with another lad named Shepherd, and while the latter was cleaning his gun, he wiped some oil on to a cartridge and placed it in the gun. When he closed the breach, the cartridge accidentally exploded, and the charge entered his friend’s leg near the knee cap. The boy Davidson was hurried to the hospital nearby, where he now lies in a precarious condition, owing to loss of blood.
On Monday afternoon, a lad named Albert Thomas 'Hansen, son of a farmer at Tutamoe, was out shooting rabbits, when he laid his gun down alongside a tree. The gun slipped, and as he went to catch it, the cartridge exploded, the charge entering his wrist. The lad managed to reach his uncle’s place, and was later brought to Northern Wairoa hospital, some 25 miles a wav, where it was found necessary to amputate the boy’s arm just above the wrist. The patient is doing fairly well after his terrible.experience.
