BOWLING.
An informal meeting of bowlers was held in the Club’s pavilion yesterday afternoon, when consideration was given several matters affecting the Club’s welfare. The question of top-dressing and weeding the green was dealt with, and Mr. Walker generously offered a quantity of suitable soil for the purpose, Messrs Thomson and Winstanley also displaying their practical interest in the Club’s welfare by offering to convey the soil to the green. A working bee will be held on' Wednesday next to take this work in hand. Subsequently the green will be treated with sulphate of ammonia as an eradicator.
The proposed match, “A’s” v. “B’s” had to be abandoned on account. of the weather and it was also decided to postpone the social evening until a fortnight hence, when it will take the form of a special general meeting and social gathering. Mr. Winstanley intimated his intention of giving notice of motion to the effect that the Club’s rules be amended to provide that the financial year end on April 30th, in order that the annual general meeting be held in May. The underlying purpose of this is to allow of Ihe incoming officials and committees taking up their duties for the coming year at the close of the playing season.
An objection raised that the length of time which would elapse between the annual meeting and the opening off ilie following season would be too long and tend to dampend interest, was over-ruled and a proposal made that a re-union of a social nature be bold a little time before the opening for play. This was considered a good suggestion.
