ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.
ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISH TONERS.
The annual meeting of the parishioners of All Saints’ Church, Foxton, was held on Tuesday evening last. The vicar, Rev. W. 11. Walton, presided over a fair attendance.
The Vicar announced his appointment of Mr. Frank Robinson as Vicar’s Church Warden for the ensuing year.
The Vicar’s report was submitted, matters dealing with the work of the church in both town and country districts being dealt with and a resume was made of all activities during the year. Special mention was made of the fact that this year is the Jubilee year of the church, and the Vicar suggested a week’s celebration along the lines 'of those followed in Oamaru.
The report and balance-sheet of the Vestry were read and adopted.
. Emphasis was laid upon the fact that during the past two years the finances of the church had showed a falling off and it was pointed out that the ensuing year would be a most critical one unless parishioners rallied round and shouldered their responsibilities.
The balance-sheet disclosed a shrinkage of £2B odd in receipts, and also that the vestry’s liabilities amounted to the sum of approximately £llO.
During the year improvements to church property to .the value of £ll4 have been effected. This expenditure was met from the Bock Bequest. The improvements included painting of church and vicarage, laying of paths, repairs to church, etc. In addition contracts have been let for sewerage etc., at the vicarage to the amount of £44 10s lOd ,thus leaving a balance in this fund of some £2O.
The Ladies’ Guild had by assiduous efforts, raised the sum of £lO9 —nearly one-third of the working revenue, and to this body of earnest workers the thanks of the Vestry and parishioners were due.
Reference was also made to the departure of Mr. Thornbur, organist, and also to the fact that the Church had in the present organist, Mrs E. Jackson, a most efficient successor.
On February 2nd, the Sunday school was re-opened, hut the activities had been disappointing and an appeal was made for support. Reports and balance-sheets of the choir and Ladies’ Guild, were read and received. Election of officers resulted as follows: Vicar’s Church Warden and Synodsman: Mr. F. Robinson; Parishioners’ Wlardon, Mr. A. S. Easton; Vestry: Messrs T. East, E. J. Murphy, S. 11. Poole, W. Nve, W. Harris, H. Taylor and F. Woods; Auditor: Mr. E. Jackson.
The following motion was carried unanimously: —“This annual meeting of the Parishioners of All Saints’ Church tenders its' heartiest congratulations to the Foxton Methodist Church on the attaining its Jubilee and expressed the hope that the good work in which it is engaged will continue to prosper.” Votes of thanks were carried to the Ladies’ Guild, Sunday school teachers, the Choir, and all who have assisted during the year.
