Shannon at Foxton, 1.30 p.m. Levin D. 11.5. v. Weraroa at Levin, 1.30 p.m. A dressing room for players is urgently needed on the racecourse, Mr. Varnham has donated plans for a suitable building and the Racing Club are in full sympathy with the local club in the matter. It is a question of ways and means to raise the needful. It is a shocking state of affairs to expect players to perform their dressing operations in the open and it is within the jurisdiction of the Union to disqualify such grounds which do not provide reasonable conveniences. It is pleasing to note that the local club are taking the matter up, and it is hoped that all will unite in assisting any effort to raise funds for the purpose. Mr. Proud’s talk to local players should result in a clearer knowledge of the finer points of the game by local players. As Mr. Proud pointed out, while a player’s fitness is essential, without a knowledge of strategy and correct combination, it will never win matches. Players must get together and play the game in theory. On the field each man knows his place and is able to do the right thing at the right time and the team works with clock-like precision. That is correct football as against individual play and bulloeking strength. Science and headwork are the correct methods to win mathes. Mr. Proud paid a very nice compliment to the local seniors, but he made it very clear that they were sadly lacking in the finer points. The local senior backs, under a capable coach, would be equal to any club backs in the Dominion, while the forward possess weight, „ willingness and speed, but are sadly lacking in combination. Team combination must be drilled into each player. The local club is to be commended in the stand it has decided to take to bring talkative and loudmouthed spectators to book. Fair encouragement to players, no matter of which side, is sportsmanlike, but jeering remarks to the referee and incitement to rough play is unsportsmanlike and should be put down with a strong hand.
