DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of (lie Foxton District High School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Woods (chairman), Rev. iW. H. Walton and Messrs. Alsop, J. K. Ilornblow, Hutchins, Perreau, Jno. Ross, R. Rangiheuea and the headmaster (Mr. Mason). An apology for absence was received from Mr. A. Stevenson. Correspondence was received from the Board notifying the appointment of Mr. N. Burks as second assistant in the secondary division.—The appointment was favourably commented upon by the committee. The resignation of Miss Browning and Miss Mullaney from the teaching staff were received, and it was decided to express to them the committee’s appreciation of their ncrvices.—The Board notified that lhe vacancies would be filled at an early date. The Headmaster reported that Miss Browning and Mr. Warwick had formed companies of Girl Guides and Boy Scouts and that lie had allowed the use of the school building for their operations, tic commended Ihe movement. — The committee endorsed the Head-masu-iN action and wished the movement success. The finances of the committee were discussed at length and it was decided to open a new set of books and that a balance-sheet for the past year be prepared and audited. Accounts amounting io £44 wore passed for payment. Mr. Kangibcuea was appointed secretary. it was resolved that meetings ho held on the first Monday in each month and that visitors be appointed in alphabetical order, Messrs. Ilornblow and Hutchins being appointed for the current month. It was decided to make an application to the Borough Council for a reduction in the water-rate charge in connection with the school sanitation.

Other minor matters were discussed and the meeting rose.
