Foxton seniors played their first game in the competitions on Saturday, when they met and defeated County B by 46 points to nil. The opening of the game gave no indication of a “cake walk" which it subsequently developed into. The ground was in good order, and there was a large attendance. The game ivas scheduled for 3 p_.ni., but it was fully half-an-hour later before the visiting team put in an appearance. As the evenings draw in the punctuality rule wjll need to be more strictly enforced. Prior to the opening of the game, the referee, Mr. Davies, made some explanatory remarks re the new rules. Foxton immediately attacked, and liirini lost no time in throwing the oval about, but the locals ' lost ground through several infringements. Fuller and Taylor by a fast follow on compelled County to accept a force. Some aggressive work on the part of liirini, Reid, Kiriofia, Kriashanko and Moses again had County on the defensive. Reid coming fast took the oval and transferred to Procter, who with a heady run crossed the line. Moses failed to convert from a difficult angle —Foxton 3, County 0. McDonald and Thompson broke through County’s defence, but a mark saved the onslaught. The relief was only temporary for the Foxton backs came through with tine combination which was nullified by another infringement. After the relief Fuller got possession and transferred to Reid, Andrews and hack to Fuller who crossed the line. Taylor failed to add the major points —Foxton G, County 0. County could not withstand the local forward onslaughts. . Fuller put in another run, but was grassed at the corner. County got away with a loose rush followed by a mark. O’Reilly, liirini and Reid came back in great .style, the latter again scoring. Moses failed to register—Foxton 9, Comity 0. Shortly after the kick out, concerted play by Reid, M,Donald, Kiriona, resulted in Reid again scoring. liirini failed to pilot the ball over the bar. Foxton 12, County 0. County made a determined effort to even up things and invaded the home territory and Foxton accepted a force. Shortly after, halftime was called. During the second spell the local team ha<J it all their own way and tries were scored by Reid (2), Andrews, liirini (2), McDonald, Kriashanko, Taylor and Hakaraia. The game ending in favour of Foxton by 46 points to nil. FOXTON THIRD’S 6 v. WERAROA 5. A ; s the results indicate the local thirds and AVeraroa were fairly evenly matched in their game on the racecourse on Saturday. Foxton (yellow) should have put up a belter showing than they did, but were inclined to hang on to the ball too much whereas open play should have characterised the game. Foxton winnig the toss, elected to play against the which, however, did not prove to be of any advantage to their opponents (white). The forwards immediately took the ball into their opponents territory and pressed for some time, ultimately causing AVeraroa to force down. Shortly after this Foxton was twice penalised for off-side play, but AA’ieraroa did not gain much from their kicks. AVeraroa was the first to draw blood, however, Taylor crossing the line. The major points were added. AA’eraroa 5, Foxton nil. Foxton again attacked and Barber crossed near the corner, but failed in the ruck, that ensued, to score. Foxton again pressed whites back and attacked hard. A free kick against the home team brought the first spell to a close. AVeraroa 5. Foxton nil. Foxton rallied round at the kickoff and took the ball down the line in a determined effort to score. From a throw-out on the 25 line Newth secured and raced over. J. Williams failed with the kick. AVeraroa 5, Foxton 3. Encouraged by the try, Yellow again pressed Whites back and Newth again securing from a throw out secured Foxton’s only other try. Ross failed with the kick. Foxton 6, AVeraroa 5. The visitors now livened up and for a while looked very like scoring but Foxton worked play back into midfield where Rankin picked up and made a bold bid for the line, but was grassed fifteen feet from his objective. From a throw-out play shifted to the 25 line where J. Williams kicked high and follow-

<:d up, being just beaten for the ball - which was kicked into dead-ball line by a white player. Foxton was still attacking when time was declared and the game ended: Foxton 6, AVeraroa 5. Mr. AV. Neville ably controlled the game. AVERAROA 16 v. FOXTON JUNIORS 3. AA’eraroa Juniors met and defeated Foxton at AA’eraroa. The first spell was fairly even, AA’eraroa. leading by 3 to nil, a penalty by Phillips. AA’eraroa gained the upper hand in the final spell and increased their lead considerably having much the best of play. Tries were scored by J. Broughton (2) and Bull, Phillips converting two, while Foxton’s score was made up with a penalty by Huff. Mr. R. Kingi controlled the game. SHANNON BEATS FOXTON FOURTHS.
