Manawatu Herald THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 1926. PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.
IT would appear that if I’oxlon wants swimming baths, then the surest way to obtain them is for the Borough Council to take the matter up, decide on a suitable site, obtain an estimate of cost of construction and submit a loan proposal to the latepayers. Meetings have been held of those interested in the construction of public swimming baths, a committee set up an organiser appointed to carry out the details of a proposed monster .art union, but the lodgment of £SOO as a guarantee has not materialised and there the matter rests. The Borough Council submitted proposals some two years ago for municipally controlled baths, but owing to a difference of opinion as to site, the proposal lapsed. The recent agitation for public baths deferred the question of site and control, but stated an approximate sum for construction. If the agitation is to be further prosecuted by voluntary effort we ,would suggest that these two points be definitely settled as a preliminary.
