TABLE OF ELECTRICITY.
The general public knows very little about the meaning of the ordinary terms used in electricity, they should know just as much about it as they do of pounds, shillings and pence, or cwts., qrs., lbs. The following information may prove useful.: — One horse-power (electrical) equals 746 watts. Voltage means pressure, Amperage is quantity of current. Amperae multified by voltage Ampeage multified by voltage makes watts. One thousand watts is one unit. One kilowatt is 100 watts. One kilowatt equals about 1 h.p. This is arrived at from the fact that calculations are based on the measure of British horse-power, which is equal to 746 watts, the other 254 walls to make up the 1000 equals almost exactly one quarter of the thousand watts.
