HIMATANGI ARTERIAL ROAD.

The Manawatu County engineer (Mr. Hickford) informed our representative yesterday that as soon as the survey is completed, tenders are to be called for the formation of the new road from the railway line to Himatangi, under the main highways scheme. The existing road which runs parallel with and close to the railway line, also encroaches on railway property for a considerable distance. The crown of the new road will be about half a chain further to the west of the present road. A considerable amount of filling and the removing of a number of sand dunes will require to be done. The present road, despite the attention given it by the Council, is a continuation of corrugations for nearly the whole length. It is improbable that the railway line will be fenced from the new arterial road.
