CORRESPONDENCE

Sir. —1 felt inclined, at first, to let “Resident” slink his doleful way unnoticed, along a back street, with his hands tight in his pockets on “shop day,” but I could not resist a playful dig at the poor fellow. Now, I am pleased to say, most of our town and country residents are “good sports” and part willingly and smilingly with a modest shilling to help a good cause. And then, Sir, how have most of our public prospects been supported? Was it not by means of the humble competition? And how shall we "raise the wind” for our swimming baths, shall we sell “sponges,” or shall we organise a gigantic (not a charily 3 raffle? Surely “Resident” is not so ungallant,as to suggest “the law” in connection with a few ladies working for charity! Yours etc., COUNTRY CONTRIBUTOR
