HOHOWHENUA UNION’S AN NUAL REPORT.

The Committee, in submitting their report for the season 1925 desire to thank all who worked so hard -in the interest of Rugby in this district. The amalgamation of our district with Manawatu is now on a sound footing, working smoothly, and the Combined Union, starting with nothing, has now approximately £145 to its credit, and after taking into consideration the heavy outlay at the start, this is very creditable. The main work carried on by the Committee during the season was the organisation and carrying on of the Cup competitions, and the attendance at meetings has been exceptionally good, which goes to show that the Committee had the interest of the game at heart. “There were not many representative games this season. Our scnioi's played Manawatu at Palmerston North and won; at Foxton, and lost ; Bush Union at Pahiatua, and lost. Although the selected team did not show up as expected, they certainly played good football, and your committee consider that with careful selection again this season, a first class side can be placed in the field. The junior reps, played Manawatu at Palmerston North and were beaten, and in this game, lack of condition was very noticeable. Of the 31 players selected in the combined team Ilorowhenua District had 16 and Manawatu 15 men selected.

“Finance: The finance of the Union last season was not good and the gate takings show a drop of approximately £IOO over the season before. This is accounted for by the few rep. games played in the district, only one, and the lack of attention outside the bigger centres in not enforcing a charge on spectators. Also the expense the Union was under re the paying of delegates’ expenses which, under the new rules they will n®t be called upon to do this season. For the coming season tire financial position appears much brighter, as we have been assured of a rep. game with Hawkes Bay “A” team; also the keenness displayed by the different clubs this season, and by careful administration by the Committee we should finish with a good credit balance.

“Your Committee desires.to thank the Referees’ Association for their assistance during the season, and to the Press for the space given in reporting matches a rid. meetings. Also all donors to the Union, and to. the people who have lent us grounds our very best thanks are due. In retiring from office your Committee wishes to thank the supporters and delegates for their valuable assistance and trust the same support will he accorded their successors this season. FINANCIAL POSITION. The statement of receipts and expenditure, and the balance-sheet, disclosed the following position:— Receipts: Balance from 1924 £lO 18s 9d, gates £206 5s lOd, insurance £35 17s, sundry £SO, total £303 Is 7d.
