CALDWELL WINS

The rifle championship final for the Ballinger Belt provided an exciting and sensational finish at Trcntham on Saturday. Prior to firing the last ten shots L. A. Caldwell (Karori) had a lead of four points from 11. Simmonds (Wanganui) but in the shoot Caldwell got 45, while Simmonds notched 49’ and placed himself level for the title. A shoot-off was necessary and amidst a scene of great excitement they fired the five tie shots when Caldwell scored 21 against his opponent’s 17 and won the championship.
