SMALLER ESTATES

ADVOCATED BY HON. PEMBER REEVES. Napier, March 20. An increase in the agricultural population and the cutting up of large estates was advocated by Hon. Pember Reeves. He said that all was well with New Zealand, but trouble was coming if the land products were not increased. He had seen tens of thousand of acres of land under alleged cultivation that was not yielding half what it should. He drew attention to the amount of weeds, native and otherwise, allowed to grow. He said that men should not have more land than they can do justice to. T,o make the country more comfortable agriculture must increase and the weeds disappear. He could not join in the howl against the motor car because it was a blessing to the man in the country.
