HOCKEY.

FOXTON LADIES CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The first annual meeting of the above was held last night. There was a good attendance presided over by Mr. M. E. Perreau (president).

The chairman congratulated the club on its first year’s operations and said that to have had players selected in representative games was very commendable, and showed that the game had now been firmly established. The efficiency of the players was in large measure due to the enthusiasm of Mrs Barron who had officiated as coach, assisted by the Rev. W. H. Walton and Mr. R.. McMurray. The matches played had aroused public interest and he was sure this year would be even more successful. The club was also indebted to Messrs Clark and Woods who officiated as referees. The finances of the Club showed a credit balance of £7 10s Od. The ball was mainly responsible for this healthy financial state of affairs.

The election of officers resulted: —Patron, Mr. J. Linklater, M.P.; Mr. D. R. Barron; vicepresidents: Messrs. F. Woods, J. Chrystall, R. Bryant, J. K. Hornblow, D. Christie, W. E. Barber, B. Gower, M. E. Perreau, Y. Delany and J. Clark. Hon. secretary and treasurer: Miss J. Gordon; committee, Mesdames Barr and D. Ball, Misses B. Gower, E. Owen, W. Walls, R. Barber, E. Patterson and R. Perreau; captain, Miss R. Barber; vice-captain, Miss W. Walls. Selection committee: Mi’s Barron, Miss Barber and Mr. J. Clark. Coaches: Mrs Barron and Mr. Clark. Delegate to M.11.A., Mr. Naismith.

Miss Owen, who resigned as secretary and treasurer, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the services she had rendered the club during the past year. It was decided to open the season with a practice game on Eastern Park on Wednesday next. Tt was decided to accept the invitation from West End (Palmerston North) to play a.friendly game at Foxton on April 21st and to hold a ball in the Masonic Hall in the evening to which the visiting players would be invited. Mrs D. R. Barron donated a rose bowl for the player making the most all-round progress. The donor was thanked.

One of the club’s supporters offered the use of his car when players were travelling and the hope was expressed that other enthusiasts would follow suit. Mr. Woods stated that arrangements were well in hand for the forming of a sub-association, and a meeting of clubs wishing to affiliate would be called at an early date. When the sub-association was formed, a ftve-a-side tourney would probably be arranged to open the season. Mr. Perreau was thanked for the use of his, rooms for meeting purposes.
