“SENTIMENTAL HUMBUG.”
DAYLIGHT SAVING PROPOSAL.
A . letter from the New Zealand Sports Protection League put before the Waitotara Council this week a plea for the support of daylight saving legislation.
Mi 1 . W. Ritchie characterised the letter as a piece of sentimental humbug, and said daylight saving was looked on with disfavour by the farmers of Great Britain. “A lot of these six-hour-a-day people think of nothing else but sport, and want more daylight than Providence has seen fit to give them.” (Laughter). A member: If people want more daylight let them get up earlier. The chairman (Mr. W. Morrison) said the sole idea of the move was to give more time for recreation, and lie thought that, as representatives of the country interests, they should oppose the proposals. It was decided unanimously that no action be taken.
