MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE AGAINST DRIVER.

Napier, February 26. The hearing of evidence in the case in which Frederick Lavin, driver of the Wellingtoii-Napier express on the occasion of the disaster in September last, is charged with manslaughter; was concluded in the Supreme Court this evening. Witnesses for the defence declared that there was no sign of liquor on accused before or after the smash. They also deposed that the train was not travelling at an excessive speed. the hearing will probably be concluded to-morrow.
