BOROUGH ROADS
At last night’s Borough Council meeting a general discussion ensued as to the state of certain roads in the borough. Cr. Thompson again drew the Council’s attention to the bad state of Coley street and urged that something be done to repair this road.
Cr. Cowley pointed out that the trouble in this locality was caused through the laying down of the sewer.
Referred to the road foreman.
Cr. Winstaniey reported that portion of Norbiton road was in bad repair.
Cr. McMurray attributed this to the cartage of contract metal over the roads by the Manawatu County Council and was of opinion that the County Council should be made to repair the road so damaged. The Clerk pointed out that all metal for use on the borough roads was carted over county roads and that they were not called on to assist to repair the county roads on account of this.
Cr Woods said that the County Council compelled a local firm to place a certain quantity of metal on the Whirokino road when they were carting heavy loads over it.
It was decided that the clerk endeavour to arrange an agreement with the Manawatu County Council to assist with the repair of Norbiton Road.
Cr. Cowley reported that there were two bad holes in the road in Wlliyte street and also referred to the fact that a small portion of footpath was needed from Main St. as far as the back entrance to Whyte’s Hotel, there being a footpath from there on. This matter is to be attended to as soon as possible.
