MILITARY CAMP.
The sth Battery, from Wellington, arrived in camp on Saturday. The troops left Wlellington by train in the morning and transhipped into motor lorries at Levin, arriving in camp a little after midday. Everything was ship-shape in camp by evening and general leave was granted until 10.30 that night. On Sunday a Church parade was held at the camp, the service being conducted by Major H. Watson, Padre. Men were again allowed out on leave xm Sunday evening.
The camp armament consists of four 181 b. guns and two six-pound-ers. The G 3 horses used by the 6th Battery have been retained and will be used by this camp. Live shell practice was commenced to-day with the 18-pounders. The camp is in charge of Major G. Lyon, M.C. and Captain Farr, D. 5.0., M.C., R.N.Z.A., is Adjutant. The other officers in camp are Captain J. J. Kean, and Lieutenants Hall, Reeves, Sincl, and Wit-hell, R.N.Z.A. Major R. Stout is the medical officer.
There are 208 men in camp and their health is reported to be excellent.
An “at home” will be held on the racecourse on Friday afternoon, at which local and district residents are invited to bo-present.
