JOY RIDERS.

MAGISTRATE FAVOURS PUBLICITY. Auckland, February 16. “I do not see any reason why the names of joy-riders, persons who take motor-cars, should be suppressed,” said Mr, J. W. Poynton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, in reply to counsel who appealel for suppression of bis client’s name. “The offence is becoming such an evil that I am of opinion that in addition to the names of offenders being published, their photographs should be published in the papers for the information of ear-owners and the public generally. Although several names have been suppressed In the past, no more will be kept from the public in future.” Cliief-Deleetivc Cummings said that the taking of motor-cars was beeomng a daily occurrence in Auckland, and that the police were being put to no end of trouble in tracing the thieves.
