MILITARY CAMP.
The (ilh. Field Battery, N.Z.A., of Napier, are at present encamped on the local racecourse. The men arrived in camp on Saturday afternoon and by evening everything was in order and the majority of men were allowed out on leave and visited the various places of entertainment in town. The men left Napier early on Saturday morning by train and on arrival at Palmerston North were transhipped into lorries and brought to Foxton, arriving here about 3 o’clock. On Sunday morning a Church parade was held, the service being conducted by Padre W. H. Walton. There are 120 Territorials in camp under the charge of seven officers. The officer commanding is Major E. J. Phillips and with him are Capt. A. E. Lawry, Lieutenants G. F. Gardener, L. Davis, W. Anderson. The Adjutant is Captain AV. Pollard, R.N.Z.A. Lieutenant W. D. Corbett is to join the camp during the latter half of this week. The camp armament consists of four 18]b. guns and one six-poun-der. To manipulate these, the camp lias brought with them 62 horses. Live shell practice will take place during the week, over Messrs. Robinson Bros, property, the shells being fired from the racecourse over the sandhills towards the sea. On this occasion the camp is located inside the course proper, and not at the rear of racecourse buildings as previously. The health of the men is reported to be excellent
