PRISONER’S IMPASSIONED APPEAL
Christchurch, February 12
All impassioned appeal for leniency was made by Frank TTnlligan, who had jumped from a third story window of the Dominion Hotel after stealing; money from a room, when his case was being; heard at the •Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Adams.
Addressing His Honour, Halligan said that he had been a fool. He was pleased he had been caught, for some innocent person might have been blamed. He then drew a Bible Horn his pocket, and began, “I promise and swear •’ His Honour: There is no need for a dramatic exhibition.
Halligan said that he wished to sav sincerely that he had seen the error of his wavs. “1 appeal to Your Honour as one godfearing man to another godfearing man to show mercy on me,” he continued. “I am only 28 years of age. and I have served my King and country. I have been brought to my senses, and I will elide a /our to live honestly a:.d straightforwardly.”
His Honour: Two years’ imprisonment. If Hie prisoner ever comes before me aghu. he will he declared an habitual criminal.
