RAILWAY STEAM CAR

TO OPERATE BETWEEN FOXTON AND PALMERSTON

The Railway Department will probably place a steam passenger Clayton railway car on the Pal-merston-Foxton line at an early date to replace the present mixed goods and passenger train. The car is nicely upholstered and will seat 55 passengers. Steam power is generated at one end, but can be controlled at both ends. It is a de lux train car. The car can travel at 45 miles per hour and will probably pick up and set down passengers at other than the regulation stations en route. The proposed fare will be equivalent to present second-class passenger rate. The time-table will be the same as the present railway service. It is proposed to run a goods train daily which will leave Palmerston at 11 a.m. and Foxton at 12.45 p.m. In conversation with the local stationmaster, we were informed that no definite instructions had yet been received as to when the new service will come into operation. In his opinion the innovation would be appreciated by the local and district public.
