N.Z. CUP LOTTERY.

NINE MEN ORDERED TO PAY COSTS. Christchurch, February 9. Nine local men who had sold tickets in an illegal lottery on the NewZealand Cup, for which the promoter was fined £IOO in Sydney in October, were convicted by. the Magistrate to-day, and ordered to pay costs. Defendants pleaded guilty, stating that they did not know they were committing an offence in selling tickets. Detective Young said the promoter had evidently consulted a directory and posted the ; books of tickets at random.
