MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS.

SUCCESS OF LOCAL PLAYERS.

The finals of the various events in the Mafinwatu Croquet 'championship meeting on the Fitzlierbert greens were playejd yesterday iu ideal conditions.

The championship singles went to Mrs Campbell, of Manawatu, after a three game contest. The run-ner-up proved to be Mrs Brown, of Northern. Mesdames Brown and McLeod won the club pairs’ championship, Mesdames Gambrill and John Young being runners-up, all the ladies being members of the Northern Club. The Foxton representatives, Mesdames McMurray and Moore, met with success as the pair’ won the handicap doubles, and both played in the final of the B grade handicap singles, the former lady winning. Two Northern representatives, Mesdames Gambrill and McLeod, played in the final of the B grade handicap singles, the former winning. HANDICAP SINGLES. In the B grade Mrs. McMurray (7), of Foxton, defeated Mrs Davies (7), of Manawatu,227,6 —7, in the semi-final. The final was played between Mrs McMurray and Mrs Moore (10), also of Foxton. The former had an easy win, finishing 26 —9. The final of the A grade was contested by Mesdames Gambrill (4), and Me Leod (61), both of Northern and after an excellent game Mrs Gambrill ran out winner 26—18.

HANDICAP DOUBLES.

The final in the handicap doubles was between Mesdames McMurray and Moore (8£), of Foxtou, and Mrs Goldfinch, of Wioodville, and Mrs. Turner (74), of Feilding. The Fox ton pair had an easy victory early in the game, gaining the peg while their opponents were only three points. It took over half an hour’s play before they were able to make the necessary two points, their opponents meantime added eight. The game ended in favour of Mesdames McMurray and Moore 26—11.
